Google Places Optimization

What is Google Places?

Google Places is a free service from Google where business owners can market, promote, and advertise their business. It lets business owners leave their mark on Google Maps and list various information about their business including their business name, products/services, address, contact details, operating hours, accepted modes of payment, photos (of establishment/products), etc.

Google Places was originally known as the Google Local Business Center, which was launched on March 15, 2005. The service was renamed to Google Places on April 20, 2010 because, according to Google, they wanted to better connect it with “Place Pages.”

Why Is Google Places Optimization Important for My Business?

Google returns Google Places listings with their organic (natural) search results when local searches are conducted. In addition, Google gives preference to well-optimized Google Places listings over the organic search results so they are often found on the top of the first page.

Here is a screenshot of how Google Places listings appear on the first page of Google when you search for a local business. In this example, I searched for bakeries in my area. Do you notice how the Google Places listings are ranked on the top of the page – before the organic search results? Do you think being ranked so well could benefit your business? Of course it could!

What Is Google Places SEO (a.k.a. Google Places Optimization)?

“SEO” stands for search engine optimization. Google Places SEO, or also known as Google Places optimization, is the practice of optimizing your listing so that it not only shows up on page one of Google, but that it ranks on the TOP of page one. Any business can create a listing, but what makes a listing so effective in driving traffic and sales to a business is having it well-optimized.

Do I Really Need To Pay for a Google Places Optimization Service?

The short answer is no. Creating a Google Places listing is free, but there is a lot to know (and many things to do) to fully optimize your listing so that it outranks other listings in your industry on the front page of Google. You want your listing to be found first when potential customers search for your products and services, and by practicing Google Places SEO that will happen.

You could do all the Google Places SEO yourself, but do you have the expertise? More importantly, do you have the time? Your time is better spent doing what you do best – running your business. Let our Google Places optimization service do what it does best by doing your businesses Google Places optimization – and we’ll get you a positive return on your investment!
